What Are Zygomatic Implants?

Zygomatic implants offer an alternative to traditional dental implants, particularly for individuals facing significant bone loss in the upper jaw. Unlike conventional implants that rely on jawbone anchorage with 4-6 implant posts, this method secures implants to the sturdy zygomatic bones in the cheeks.

By utilizing the robustness of the zygomatic bone, we expand the potential for full mouth dental implants, even for patients previously deemed ineligible for standard implant procedures. This advanced approach enhances treatment options, ensuring more patients benefit from comprehensive dental restoration solutions.

Consultation

At Next Smile + Implant, every dental implant procedure begins with a thorough consultation. During this initial appointment, we will review your medical history and discuss your dental needs and aesthetic goals. Following a comprehensive oral examination, we’ll utilize digital X-rays and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans to create a detailed 3D image of your bone structure, nerves, and sinus cavities. This advanced imaging technology ensures precise planning and placement of your dental implants for optimal results.

Procedure

Once your treatment plan is finalized, we will proceed with your implant surgery. Utilizing your chosen sedation option, we will create small incisions in your gums and insert 4-6 dental implants into your zygomatic (cheek) bone. Typically, one zygomatic implant is positioned on each side of the upper back arch, accompanied by 2-4 conventional implants in the anterior region.

Following implant placement, we will attach an abutment connector to support your temporary restoration, allowing you to experience the benefits of your new smile during the healing process.

Healing & Final Restoration

Over the next 4-6 months, your implants will integrate with your bone through osseointegration. Once your mouth has fully healed and stabilized, it will be ready to support the final prosthesis. This set of permanent teeth is meticulously crafted to match your facial structure, skin tone, lip contours, and gum line for a natural appearance.

Once placed, you can enjoy eating all your favorite foods, smile confidently, and experience restored self-assurance. With regular check-ups and diligent at-home care, your implants can provide lasting benefits for a lifetime.
